That reminds me of the old irish joke (apologies to those Irish folks on the list)
which goes something like this -
Paddy's walking along the road and happens upon Mick coming towards him
on the other side, Paddy waves to Mick and says 'Top o the morning to ya Sir,
could ya be telling me the best way to be getting ta Limerick' Mick rubs his
chin for a moment and replies 'Well Sir, if I were you, I wouldn't be startin
from here'
The moral being, if you want to enter and win Concours events, you need to
have that in mind at the beginning.
I never set out to build a Concours car, but to be honest, it seems to be
heading in that direction, but only because I've become fastidious about
originality and perfectionism.
Having said that, I'm not a great fan of Concours events, mainly due to the
Judges, on the whole (there are exceptions) that simply do not know all of the
varieties of Spridgets well enough to be able to judge them all fairly and
impartially. A good example of that would be the brand new Spridget that's
spent all of its life from new sitting in a garage thats entered into a Concours
event and doesn't win it. Most of the cars being entered into Concours these
days never looked like that when they were new, they look much better. So
much so that owners of Concours cars never actually use them!
I suspect my car will be more at home in the 'Condition' class rather than
pure Concours, as I plan to use it as it was intended, for driving and enjoying;
and not being an expensive 'cosseted' toy thats never driven and spends 99%
of its time in a plastic cocoon in the garage because I'm too scared of getting
a stone chip on the paintwork to actually use it, like so many Concours car
owners do.
I do agree with you though Rob, if you want to build a car to compete in
Concours events you have to start from scratch, you have to sink 1000,s of
pounds into it and at the end of it - never actually use it ; )
