Thanks for the relies, I agree with you Nigel it isn't really worth mocking
your own panels I spent a day making the riser brackets which I could have
bought for 22 pounds. The main reason I make my own is to develop my
metalworking and welding skills before I let myself loose on the important
structural parts of my project car. The other advantage is that not all the
repair panels are exact replicas of the original (even the good quality
ones) either in exact design or metal thickness.
I was very interested in Nigel's comments about the front portion of the
chassis legs tilting up slightly, although I think this may be more likely
to be due to 30+ years of occasionally running up high curbs than a
deliberate design feature, I can think of no reasons why the designers would
need to complicate the design in this way. I may well be wrong on this point
and would be interested to hear the opinion of the list.
Regarding Biff's comments, yes I am sure the misalignment of the brackets to
the valance holes is due to the new valance, but I am more interested to
know that on your totally original 62 Sprite are the bottom edges of the
riser brackets level with (or parallel to) the bottom of the chassis rails
or do they as I suspect tilt forward. This condition will mean that the rear
of the bracket finishes further up the side of the chassis rail than front
of the bracket I think by about 5mm.
