Nigel, congratulations having the car moving again! Mine is already for 4
years in the state yours has been for 15....(on axle stands). Did your spray
the bottom already, or are you gonna remove the wheels and suspension again?
I'm thinking of doing the whole bottom before putting it on wheels again.
I've the same kind of problems as you have (small garage, not to much light,
damp & cold) but am considering this approach because imperfections won't
really show up due to the layer of flexible undercoating hiding them. Then
I'm gonna put the suspension and wheels on to be able to do the rest of the
painting finishing in day-light (this will probably take another 5 years or
so...).
Just a quick update on the doorgaps / a-post:
Last week I found out that my replacement A-post aren't any good! They are
at least 2-3mm to high (not level with the wing and door!); that's about
1/10 inch. I decided there's no way of getting them to fit without serious
bodging! Next Saturday I'll drive over to a local MG parts store (it's
actually about 60km across the border in Germany) to see if they have an
inner A-post that does fit and at the same time has already the triangular
shaped reinforcement for the door-strap.
Does anybody on the list know if the A-post on later midgets (with the
square shaped reinforcement) is higher? If this is the case it might be
worth selling the ones I have now to a later model midget owner, otherwise
I'd better scrap them (it feels bad to throw away money, but I don't want to
cheat someone).
The good news is that the door-gaps seem to be about right, so I can leave
the new sill as is! :-)) But I've learned my lesson: other side I'll tackle
the A-post first!
