Thanks Nigel, but actually I don't think I can help very much.
All the 948cc and 1098cc cars brought to or built in Oz, were badged as Sprites. All the 1275cc cars were Midgets. As a consequence, it is VERY rare to see a Mk1 or Mk 11 Midget over here, or a Mk IV Sprite. They have to be private imports. And so, our Registrar has very little info on these cars.
The only Mk II Midget on our Register is GAN3/45293, which was built in December 1965 (date unknown) and shipped from the factory on 10 December 1965.
We have no GAN2 cars on the Register.
Certainly the "L" denotes Left Hand Drive. Given that the body shells are one and the same, it would be possible to change a LHD car to RHD with no evidence that it had been done. I can only assume that this is the case with the two cars you are enquiring about.
Hey guys - isn't there someone in the US with records from the BMIHT Certificates? Ed, you have seen plenty, doesn't anyone keep copies and records?????? Or is it just me who is anal retentive?
