And sorry Nigel - BRG was a standard colour for Bugeyes in Australia.
The cars assembled here came in as CKD (Completely Knocked Down) and painted in grey primer. They were painted here in four standard colours, after four European national racing colours:
Rhiems Blue (France)
Monza Red (Italy)
Nurburg White (Germany), and
British Racing Green (duh).
The Australian ID plates on the firewall were stamped with the car model, body number, engine number and colour. We have quite a few on the Register that were (and many still are) British Racing Green. Sometimes shortened on the plate to BRG.
Of course we all know that there were a number of different greens used by the British teams over a 40 or so year period, but the BRG used was that in vogue in 1958. It is not the almost black green, but a lighter shade. I think it's common name was Sherwood green. If anyone wants the colour code, I'm certain my tame spray shop can come up with a formula for you. Or you can do what the paint manufacturers do - pick a green you like that is near enough, and call it British Racing green.
Our BRG was close to the (new) racing green on the Teglerizer site.
