An excellent question, Robert! And you've beaten me to the punch as well!!
My old coil went TU 2 months ago and I put a new Crane unit on my 68 -
1275cc Midget. Works great, but now I am looking at electronic ignition
for the Beast. Dunno if the Crane will work with something like the Pertronix
or other EI systems. Any input gratefully accepted....
