I am certain that one of the more mechanical listers will say this is a
bad thing to do, but here's what I do
in situations like this:
1) put the item in a vise or somehow have it supported so that you
don't have to hold it
2) use a propane torch to gently heat up the piston, making the
rubber gooey enough to break free
2A) Don't let the rubber catch on fire! WD-40 is flammable, I
think, so have a bucket of water or fire extinguisher handy just in case!
3) using heat-resistant gloves and a hammer, rap the hammer against
a metal rod or bolt to get the impact
centered on the piston. My concern with a screwdriver is that
it might "scar" the cylinder
This basic process has worked for me in way too situations to mention!
You don't want to get it too hot, or else you risk warping it all.
