You are absolutely correct on this.
It is one thing to go with lighter, wider
WHEELS while retaining the stock narrow
width tires (80's) in stock size or slightly
oversize.
It is another thing to go with a wider
"footprint", wheel material or width notwithstanding.
At this point, you will definitely
be changing the "character" of the stock
vehicle's handling in terms of "tossability".
Absolutely correct IMHO in terms of my
personal experience.
One should read up on "handling" before
doing upgrades involving wider footprints
on suspensions originally intended for
for more narrow "footprints" in term of
what to "expect".
