I trust all the purists out there have their nitro glycerin pill handy. A
group member observed upon seeing my bugeye bonnet photo that I have a lot
of new metal to replace with new and weld in place of the rusted metal on
the edges of the bonnet . . . I am thrilled that my MIG welding skills have
progressed to a point that I tack welded the side panels back on after
having removed them to work the fenders back to a fair semblance of their
original state . . . weld sheet metal . . . I think not.
Hinging from the front I do not need the original structural strength there
anymore. The good man at Tap Plastics supplied me with the proper supplies
and advice to do what I must do . . . It's clean the rust off, fiber glass
under lament and bondo with long fiber strands on top or it becomes a lawn
ornament, or mounted on a pedestal as a monument to all the fallen bugeyes
of the world who were sent to landfills by those who would not compromise.
Glenn was very clever, he didn't send it to the land fill, "Want a free
bonnet? It's yours if you haul it away." He said with a twinkle in his eyes.
All you have to do is say "free" and there will always be some old coot who
will spend the money for a U-haul, a MIG welder, an angle grinder, a couple
of gallons of paint striper, fiberglass supplies, bondo, primer and hundreds
of hours of labor. Must not forget the Tylenol to relieve the pain so I can
sleep enough to spend another day on the thing. Humans are such strange
creatures, and someone here still believes we are a higher life form than
other "animals."
