No. We buy in vast quantities. SUV's
aside, our oil consumption alone for commercial transportation,
including
our airline (both public and corporate)
for one day is unreal, relatively speaking,
So, relatively speaking we get low, low prices accordingly.
If the average joe is already paying a
48% tax rate, then funding isn't the problem. How we are spending what
we
have IS.
Tax or no tax, our government would find
OTHER ways to spend it. This then is the
real problem...accountability for the bucks
and exactly where they're going.
But let me ask you....
how can you trust a Congress that continues to give ITSELF raises during
the
current financial difficulty and joblessness
of our economy? What have they done
lately to increase jobs and/or help the long
term unemployed because they're are so
few jobs? Wrong people upstairs? Oh,
yeah. More self-serving than public
service oriented.
Which leads to......
I am for helping others but, charity begins
at home. You take care of your own first,
then help others. We are out of whack
in this respect and have been for years,
IMHO and now, in difficult economic
times.
The war on global terrorism must go
forth at any cost, otherwise our way of
life will perish in the end by those who
have sworn to kill us at the cost of their
own lives. The only way to beat such
people, as we learned from the Japanese
in WW2, is to kill them and put those who
support them out of commision. Then we
help rebuild 'em a la Japan & Germany
after the war is won. This overseas
expense is gonna be there no matter
what. Our very long term survival is at
stake. If we don't survive as a nation, we
won't have to worry about our economy!
Other than that, shift spending the bucks
to a greater extent to solve problems
at home. When we get better again, we
can resume the quantity of our help to
others abroad.
It's the Davis syndrome to some extent on an International scale that we
are involved
in here.
Maybe California should set the example?
Maybe we need an "International recall"
as far as Congress is concerned and an army of Ahhnolds working through
intelligent advisors and businessmen of
old fashioned honor and integrity when
it comes to public service.
'Cause the way it's being done now is
not what are founding forefathers had
in mind to be sure! :)
