Cap'n Bob,
My you do go on. I can't process all of what you sent but I will speak to part of it. As the father of two boys (21 and 15)I know (first hand empirical) that the parents of children within 5-10 years of mine either way are the worst in a long time. This is my generation and they, as a group, suck! The catalog of selfishiness, over-indulgence in all areas, horrific judgement and evasion of adult responsibilities of all kinds is truly mind-blowing. All the silliness of the 60's and 70's was pounded into the wits of a single generation. A generation without the power of discriminating thought or the strength of character to know any proper course. Perhaps most importantly, too many of my generation simply lack balls.
The most hare-brained and intellectually indolent are in charge of educational standards and content for today's youth. I find no mystery in Johnny not being able to read or find Afghanistan on a map much less knowing who Shakespeare or Ayn Rand were.
The shared culture and proven ideals of Western Civilization have been savaged and trivialized by people in education, politics, the arts etc. who have no idealogy but personal aggrandizement and no philosophy but that which makes them feel good. More and more I appreciate the Churchillian (I beleive?) remark: If you are not a liberal at 25 you have no heart. If you are liberal at 45 you have no brain.
LBC content-Several hours and beers consumed with my MG buddy Neil has led me to believe that my clutch problems may be an oil lead rather than weak diaphragm springs as I originally thought. Great talk and beer but resolution is an engine/tranny pull away.
