I wonder if someone can help me here. I have raised this issue before, and
wish to bring it to the attention of 'The People who Know'
For Christmas I was fortunate enough to receive a copy of Terry Horler's
'Original Sprit and Midget' which I have thoroughly enjoyed reading. On
page 80 next to the Photo' of the dashboard, he states, with regard to Mk2
Midgets, that "The gear lever cowl was now painted black regardless of body
colour." This appears to be contradicted in Clausagers book 'Sprites and
Midgets - the complete Story' on page 101, where it states "The gearlever
turret should be body colour(white on this car)"
From the section in Horler's book and from other photo's in Clausager's, it
is apparent that they both are referring to Mk2 Midgets.
I contend that both are wrong and that the gearlever turret or cowl, if
indeed they are talking about the same thing, should be painted carpet
colour on all mk2 midgets. I have strong evidence to support this
hypothesis and would like to have the 'apparent' misapprehensions corrected
before they become to strongly embedded in MG 'folk lore'. I say apparent
because this detail may have been corrected before, without my knowledge.
