On your soft pedel problem, I don't think it is the MC. Try bleeding the brakes one or two times, remember to start at the farthest wheel from th MC and work closer. A soft pedel that will pump up hard usually is air in the lines. Where the air came from is a nother story. If it fixes the problem and is ok for a while, then returnes, you must find the leak, perhaps in the stop light switch (as you noted).
