Hey, I don't make this stuff up, I just tell you what the books tell me, don't
shoot the messenger!

'The changes that followed were more political than practical. Matt black
paint reared its ugly head all over the cars in October 1969. Not only did they
have the same price for the first time, but the Spridgets received identical
recessed grills, black sills and sombre new windscreen frame. The standard
wheels, also in matt black, looked a lot beter, however: they were cast rather
than pressed. The bumpers were remodelled on BL's corporate slim-line
theme, with the rear blade being divided to make way for a vertical number
plate in the middle. Leyland badges also made their appearance as
part of BL's new policy to ease out marque names, although, the old Austin
Healey and MG badges were retained for the time being, but in much smaller
form. The actual model names, Sprite and Midget, were emphasised in
chrome on the matt black sills, the austere competition-orientated nature of
which was relieved by long chrome strips!'
