G'day guys
I really don't want to continue this line of discussion, and this will be my last email on the subject.
However, as I stated in my last email:
There has been too much incorrect info published and accepted as "gospel" without checking what might have been done with regard the many thousand cars built here.
Terry Horler's book is truly an excellent publication, but there are some areas in which it is simply incorrect. And Australian paint colours is one of those areas.
As Registrar of the Sprite Car Club of Australia, I am keeper of the records of Club members' cars. As stated in the past, Australian built cars had an ID plate which recorded, amongst other things, the car colour. Of course, some of these ID plates have gone missing and not all 61 Bugeyes on the register have known original colours. However, ths score for the "international racing colours" is:
Nurburg White - 15 cars
British Racing Green - 10 cars
Monza Red - 9 cars
Rhiems Blue - 3 cars
Other recorded colours are Bard Grey (2), Carnation Red (5), Heron White (1), Bill Blue (1), Card Red (1), Mineral Blue (1), Aintree Green (3).
Not a LeMans Blue or a Goodwood Green in sight.
So to my friends in the USA and UK - I promise not to try to tell you what was or was not standard in your country, please don't try to be an expert on cars assembled over here.
