I am restoring a 65 Sprite and originally intended to use a new shell or at
least the basic tub (no front wings, doors, bonnet or boot lid) to do this I
would have had to modify the rear deck to suit the roadster hood. When my
local supplier quoted me 1750 for the tub I changed my mind and set to work
restoring the old body. All the panels are available and at least the Sprite
will retain more of it's original metal (maybe not that much more) this way.
If you re-hell a car you are not so much restoring it, more like building a
replica.
The MK II Sprite is a great little car ( by far the best of the Spridgets)
with it's quarter elliptical rear springs, bucket seats, side screens, flat
dash and roadster hood. It would be sacrilege to put wind up windows and a
fixed hood on it and the flat dash will not fit the new body. I assume the
car is or has recently been on the road and so can not be that much of a
basket case. Get it rebuilt by a good restorer and it will not only be as
goods as new but will be worth 5000 of anybodies money. I don't know where
you are located but if you are anywhere near Cambridgeshire I could put you
on to a few people who would do a good job for you at a fair price.
