Maplins have a web site (maplin.co.uk) and do mail order from it. The wire
is quite thick for the panel lights and shoulds easily take the extra load.
When I get to Maplin I will buy a holder and a halogen bulb, and try to
modify the existing holder. In the past I have smashed up a bulb and
mounted the new holder in the screw bit of the old bulb. Now the old bit
screws into the original holder and the new bulb goes into the new holder.
Got two problems, not a lot of light and bad distribution of light.
Brighter bulb may cure lack of light but not bad distribution.
Added a second standard light bulb to my speedo. With just one bulb at 50
mph position 0 to 60 light up quite well, this bulb is in the white half on
the case, add the second bulb in the90 mph position and the 60 to 100 mph
light up with a blue tinge.
Tried rev counter, case between 1500 and 5000 is painted sky blue inside,
light is at 3000 and lights up virtually nothing. It looks like the blue
paint inside the case is killing the light.
Is the solution to repaint the cases white all over inside and put in
additional standard lights evenly spaced? It would be nice to see them in
the dark.
