How I came to a Midget...?
A few years ago, my brother gave me a 1975 FIAT X1/9. He was having
some problems with it. I got those fixed. It was a fun little car.
Like a go cart, but street legal. Well, one day I was driving around
town and happened to look in the rear view mirror. All I saw was
flames and smoke. Now, mind you, the only thing between me and the
fire, was the gas tank. YIKES!! I thought to myself, "So this is how
it's going to end. Riding a flaming FIAT into Hell." I was able to
get it to the curb at the same time as a guy with a fire extenguisher
showed up. We got the fire out, but all the rubber and wiring in the
engine compartment was shot. I sold it to a friend for the cost of
the fancy rims I had on it.
It took a couple weeks before I was missing the adrenaline rush of
the open roadster. I happened to be "surfing" and came upon the
Madison (Wisconsin) MG Group page. At that time they had a classified
section. This car was for sale. After a couple delays my wife and
went to look at it and bought it.
I have only had to do some minor repairs to it (mostly in the
brakes). My wife drives it more than I do. She loves it, but didn't
like the X1/9 (must be the targa top that she didn't like).
I live in an area that is all bluffs and hils so the car is a real
kick.
