G'day all
Hopefully the last couple of questions before we dicide on which 5-speed kit to use.
Whilst it seems everyone says "no modifications to the car are necessary", the Morriservice instructions state:
"Underneath the heater box is a beam that needs to be altered some. Typically it needs to be moved up and back about 3/4 inch. Pounding it up and back with a hammer is the usual way."
Well, if you ever tried to undo that damage, you would think that it was a modification.
I questioned Paul A on this, and he replied:
"This mod under the heater box can be dealt with by cutting the transmission a small amount. The amount of depressing and beating back in that area is about 1/2" rather than as stated, 3/4".
So to both Rivergate and Morriservice users: did you, or did not not, have to pound the heater box with a hammer to fit the gearbox into the car?
And secondly - Rivergate use the standard 1275cc pressure plate, whereas Morriservice use a Datsun pressure plate. The kit will be fitted behind a supercharged 1330cc engine putting out 120 ft lbs of torque and 140 bhp. I know the Midget plate will not handle this power output. Likewise the Datsun is unlikely to, as the cars from which the gearbox is sourced are rated at max 80 bhp. In fact, I have doubts whether the gearbox itself will survive.
So guys - how much power does your engine develop, and do we have any collective experience with clutch and gearbox survival behind powerful engines.
thanks all, and avagoodday
Colin
