Cap'n
It's coming on!
I've been seriously hampered by the weather here lately, which hasn't been
very conducive to spraying! We had snow here a week or so ago, since then
its been milder but with that comes rain and wind; very windy here again
today. But I've pushed on doing what I can, and the bodyshell with front panel
assembly and both wings in position is now about 90% finished in gloss. I'm
just doing the black sills now and finishing both doors.
I had a friend come round midweek, who hadn't seen the car since it was on
it's side and I was doing the underside, who remarked on the paintwork 'wow
how do you get it so smooth and glossy?' so I guess that's a good sign :)
The problem I have now is knowing when to stop - how good is good enough?
and for some reason disasters always seem to happen on what I intend is
going to be the final coat! Is there some kind of 'murphy's law' governing
paint disasters? If there is I think it must go like this - 'If anythings going to
go wrong with your paintwork - it'll go wrong on the final coat'. It happened
again on the door I was finishing off - got it perfect for its final coat - sprayed
two good passes then SPLAT! Paint was squirting out of the paint gun in
streams as I pulled the trigger - nice blobs of paint all over my panel and not
little tiny ones either! I had no choice was to let it dry and start again! The
gun problem was a tiny slivver of metal that had somehow got into the
mechanism.
The hood frame has been painted, so have the vent doors and vent tubes, so
I'm doing little bits as and when I can, inbetween waiting for things to dry.
The next job to really get on with is to put in the brake and clutch lines, I've
got the tubing and tube flarer so as soon as I'm happy with the external
paintwork I shall start putting things back!
I will take a photo and show you how its looking soon.
