Ah....I percieve, Jens!
What they've provided is basically their road "performance" curve
contained in
their "Y" (yellow) commercially available
dizzies.
The chart they included is the actual advance curve contained within the
distributor. This would be in "distributor degrees" Jens, at
"distributor rpm".
Double the figures in each case for
engine rpm and advance available at
the crank.
Then add in the initial static
timing recommendation (4-6 degrees)
to the foregoing figures and you'll know
how many degrees you are getting at
the crank at any rpm, per their "static"
timing recommendation.
Now, the above is for academic interest
only.
Since you are going on a dyno, you'll
be concerned with the "dynamic setting"
and not really concerned with
"static" initial advance or their recommendation in this respect, except
possibly as an initial starting point before
the wheels start turning.
The "correct" static setting for YOUR
engine will become a function
of the "total timing" figure required by
the engine based upon the octane used
in the application, as determined by the
dyno "numbers" under "dynamic" circumstances. After all, this is the
primarily important number, now that
a basically "correct" advance curve has
been provided by Aldon.
When the distributor reaches full advance
at whatever engine rpm it does,
the dyno operation/engine tuner will vary
the total timing manually, by a few degrees one way or the other and see
how the motor responds in terms of
power shown on the dyno, assuming the
fuel curve shows the proper CO content
(6%+). He'll then "set" the dizzy for max
power and the total timing number will be
known for your motor. Simple and effective!
Let us know how your session goes on
the dyno. Take notes in order, as you go,
'cause as you review them, you'll learn
what it takes to "dial in" a motor, in terms
of fuel and ignition curves.
