I just found a 58 Bug-eye project in Concord (SF East Bay-area) CA.
that I thought I'd pass along. I haven't seen the car and I'm real
tempted to but if I do go there'd be a big chance that I'd also bring
it home=85 so I'm not going. Besides, my wife would kill me if I

I got the car through a neighbor about 3-4 years ago. I was owned
and worked on for about 10 years by an elderly man. When he died his
family sold it and I bought it for my teenage son to restore. As you
may have guessed, He got a 1964 T-Bird and no longer has interest in
the 58. I would work on it myself but I have a 1933 Auburn and 1963
Triumph that are being restored and many other projects. I don't
have the time to work on another car.
This is a project car. It came to me in boxes. It appears to be
parts from at least 2 cars. The main body/frame was partially
sandblasted and was not primed so it currently has surface rust all
over it. The previous owner cut out the floor pans but had a new
set. I installed them and have done some of the rough body work but
it has a long way to go. It appears to be very complete and there
are duplicates of many of the parts. I know there are 2 of each door
and a new top in a box. I don't know the car very well but I was told
that the engine is possibly a 1300 and it looks pretty clean.
The engine has not been run since I have had it. Someone told me it
was probably a 1300cc engine but I don't really know. The man I got
it from said that his father had rebuilt the engine, trans and almost
completed the rear end. The car body is mounted on a revolving roll-
around frame and the engine is on a dolly. There are also some extra
trim and suspension parts. There is some holes on the side below the
doors. I cut some of it out and welded some pieces in but there is a
little more to do still. The door posts had trash and rust at the
hinge area. The I cut an access hole there to clean the area out and
removed the hinge plate. As I recall, One side is completed and the
other partially done. There was cracking around the hood hinge
mounting area of the fire wall and that has been repaired. The
interior and trim appears to be all there though only good enough for
patterns.
I've done quite a few cars over the years and this one is in average
shape and is very restorable, but it needs everything. As far as a
price I would like $3000 and I'm open to any reasonable offer.
