with regards to understeer, this may be of interest, I swapped the front
springs on my 1500 for 400lb 8 1/4" springs with poly bushes all round and a
3/4" ARB with nylatron bushes (i have a freeling the old ARB was 9/16ths)
its a '75 UK car btw.
Now, this tightend the front end up no end and felt great, however, ther
rear still had the standards springs and was lowered 1" on blocks. After
these mods it had a tendency to snap oversteer mid corner (after initially
understeering) , I was going to play with the tyre pressures etc to see
what difference it made but in the mean time had a safety devices rear roll
bar welded in (as i intend to hillclimb the car). Just this addition has
almost eliminated the sudden oversteer and there is no hint of understeer,
in fact it handles very very well now and im more than pleased.
I can only guess that the extra stiffness the roll ar has provided has
caused this somewhat pleasent side effect. As an added bonus, theres
almost no scuttle shake either since the roll bar was added.
I know it not a standard car anymore but I thought the info might be of some
use....
