I really don't see what the problem is here and what it is that you don't
understand.
Unfortunately I do not have the book you refer to, I do however have parts
manuals for all series of Spridgets and I can tell you with utmost certainty
that the floor pan for a 1/4 elliptic Mk1 sprite is NOT The same as the floor pan
for the semi elliptic later cars.
OK but you must have the moss parts catalouge then
where it states that the later floorpan can be used on early cars with little modification.. well I have used a later floor pan on a Mk1 midget (quater eliptic), the little modification neded is so small it amounts to nearly non, well less than needed to fit a patern wing compared to an origagnal one. IIRC all it needed was two extra holes drilled in it for the front two bolts of the bottom spring plate (the large one that often gets weled to the floor buy idiots), adn I really don';t cout that a a cahge in the floor pan pressing. Then the car needed the sthretheners peculier to the quater eliptic cars welding in.. but that was no hardship either
The floor pan pressing DID change from 58 - 79 you are incorrect here and I do
not understand where you're getting this information from, the Sprite Mk1
floor pan DID NOT HAVE PRESSINGS FOR SEMI ELLIPTIC SPRINGS !
But BMC being the cheap skates they were made the front semi eliptic mounts fit in the hole vacated by the old 1/4 eliptics rather than design a new floorpan and all that would go with that, even the bolt holes line up with 4 of those on the quater eliptic mountings
This is my final post on this, because I'm growing tired of explaining this.
I am not sure what you have tried to expalin, so far you ahve jsut said it won't work, with no exlpaination, my information comes from having helped rebuild a number of Spridgets with both rear ends, and I still can't see why everyone says it can't be done, as BMC were very clever in avoidng any alterations in the basic structure of the car when the changed the rear suspension
Stewart if you want to put a Sprite Mk1 into a 1500 RB shell, go ahead and do it.
Actually I have given up on this idea, leaning towards getting an heratage shell with no external panels fitted, but only because they don't do the Mk1 shell, unfortunatly this stll means fitting quater eliptic spring boxes to a semi eliptic structure
