Hi all,
I picked up a 1275 (73 Midget) engine for my Morris Minor project
car. Since it arrived in four boxes a few parts were missing (so
I've discovered) One of these was the small triangular(ish) drive
flange which connects the camshaft to the oil pump. A new oil pump
and flange were obtained (along with loads of other stuff for a
complete rebuild). After assembling the oil pump, camshaft and the
triangular camshaft retaining plate I find I have about 1/8" or so
of endfloat where the spec is 4 to 7 thou! The retaining plate is a
little worn - as was the one from my old 1098, but it's only a few
thou. I have turned up a spacer on my lathe to fit between the
camshaft and the oil pump drive flange but I am worried about the
root cause of this discrepancy. Does anyone have a clue how this
motor can be set up with 7 thou of end float. I can't find anything
obviously missing from the Midget workshop manual like a spacer or
something.
Oh, the wear pattern on the oil pump side camshaft bearing shows
that the camshaft wants to be pretty hard up against the cam
retaining plate at the other end, but there's nothing at the oil
pump end to keep it there.
