Hi all
I have just received an excellent Spridget catalogue from MOSS that
not only lists all of their parts but is also a tuning guide as well.
In there they recommend that for modern driving a 1500 would really
benefit from a thermostatically controlled oil cooler, uprated
relief spring and a supplementary rocker oil feed kit.
This is apparently due to the Spitfire engine being mated to
the "wrong gearbox" and subsequent over revving leading to the oil
thinning and thus pressure dropping.
As I am not flogging mine down the motorway at 80mph all day is this
something that I should worry about?
Also do the members of this group from hotter climates (I'm looking
at you Californian and Australian owners!)find oil thinning to be a
problem?
Although not a cure, surely changing the grade of oil should help.
At the moment I am using Castrol GTX for basic engines 15/50.
Could this be the reason as to why BL took out the combined oil
pressure water temp guage and fitted just a plain water temp?
Many Thanks
James
