Hello..
I have two sprigets..
The first car is a 1974 1500 (yes they do exist as I had to keep
telling anyone I orderd parts for it from!)Which I bought in 1988,
dorve for 6 months and then stripped, scince then I have replaced the
inner and outer sills, repaired the floor and the front chassis
sections and inner fornt arches.. restoration has stalled there, and
the last time I actulally worked on it was 1991 IIRC! If my research
is correct it is the 126th 1500 midget built and it is /was teal blue
registerd JMB742N
The second spridget I have is in fact older, being a 1959 Mk1 Sprite,
however it is a retired hillclimb car, its current condition being
somwhat removed from stanadrd. It has a 1380 (1275) A series
indtalled, but I do have the original 948 (now 998) engine. It has
disk brakes from a later spridget, the bonnet has been repalced with
a fibre galss one, (although I do have a steel one in need of some
work) I aslo picked up a 3.77:1 riley 1500 diff to go in it, as I
found redlinig at 80 a bit tiresome (she still has the 4.55:1 diff..)
THe beast as she is known due to her number plate being TMR666 has
suffered over the years, maninly due to haveing been subjected to the
usual 'Plating' for MOT's, and now the shell is in need of some
really serious repairs to put right.
What the sprite realy needs is a new floorpan assembly, I have often
though about modifying the 1500's floorpan to Mk1 sprite spec,
cutting the back end of and grafting the rebuilt floorpan / front end
to the Mk1 back end and modifying the sructure to take the quarter
eliptic rear suspension, as I have already done the work to the 1500
shell that the frog eye needs to put it right, or is this a silly
idea? should I jsut fit new floors and sills to the frogeye and
repair the heel boards and the spring boxes on the frogeye shell, all
of which have ben done properly on the 1500 shell.. (in fact all the
1500 shell needs is the rear of the boor floor repairing and the rear
wings repairing on both sides for which I aready have the panels..)
Or do heratige do 'bare bones' Spridet shellswith not external
paneling, as this would be perfect for what I need!
