My car recently broken down and I was hoping somebody might be able
to give some idea of the likely fault and how to fix it.
After being run fairly hard for about 30 mins then pulling up to
traffic lights my '76 1500cc Midget had very little power when I
tried to pull away from lights. Pressing the accelerator made
neighter the speed increase or the Revs. Instead it just made the
engine sound rougher.
I pulled over straight away and found out that the lower two pistons
( furthest from the driver) were doing nothing. (I pulled out the
spark plug connections and the engine did not change at all, where as
the top two stopped the engine)
I also removed all the spark plugs and they all looked okay. Also
there is no water in the oil on the dipstick. I have not been able to
get hold of a compression gauge yet but I indeed to do that asap.
I have been having trouble with my carburretor recently, it appears
that petrol is leaking fom the top carburretor which feeds the two
working pistons.
Any way my question is this:
Is it possibly that the two lower pistons aren't getting any/enough
petrol? And if so is there an easy way to check this? I have the
standard carbs, HS4 I believe.
What are the other likely faults?
