Rick,
My V6 is a GM crate motor sold for replacement of the Chevy S10
2.8L V6. It is rated at 160 hp if the stock S10 2bbl intake and cast
iron exhaust manifolds were bolted back on it. With my headers and
Holley/Offy intake system, I would guess mines's up toward 190 or so,
but I have no dyno data. This month I am planning to install a set
of Crane roller rockers, so that sould push it up over 200hp.
My traction sucks. The 185s I have don't hook up. The only time
they did when I had a passenger of low aspect ratio on board, and I
broke the rearend. Hence the future swap to the Ford 8". Present
setup is good for amusement though. That "your ride was here" photo
on the web site was done by putting the line lock on, breaking loose
in 2nd gear, running it up to 5000 RPM and then releasing the lock.
Kind of like an aircraft carrier launch. I had 3.36 gears then, and
so it spun for about 150 ft. I now have 3.70s and I really like them.
The Ford rearend got postponed until this fall. My fabricator got
behind schedule and couldn't take the car in and rearend housing to
narrow until about right now, and that is too late. Job would
probably drag out until June or worse, and our driving season is too
short up here in western NY for that.
I am going to run 3.80 gears in the Ford. Finding 13" or 14"
tires is a bitch. Everything now is for these 16+" wheels for the
ricers. I actually could not find a matched set of four, and settled
on Goodrich 185-60/14 Traction T/A's on the front and 245-50/14
Radial T/A's on the rear. I had not intended to go that wide on the
rear, was looking for 225s, but could not find them. So I will have
to have the wheel wells tubbed a little bit to get them underneath.
I have already bought Panasport wheels and had the tires mounted.
Put the fronts on for a quick look and I like them. Boy those 245s
look fat.
As you know, there are a lot of constraints between ground
clearance and fenderwell clearance rquirements. I have a spreadsheet
that lists the whole range of possible 13" - 15" tire sizes, i.e.
height and sidewall width if you would like a copy.
Yes, you will probably want wider tires than you could fit to
stock MGB wheels. And nope, haven't done any drag racing so far. No
point until I get a decent rearend underneath.
Where you at anyways?
