I suspect it's a Gold Seal or Silver Seal replacement unit, though I think 'RKM' part numbers were used for these. A couple of questions should identify it; does it have the 1275 tag or if not, removable tappet covers on the manifold side of the block? Does it have the oil filter head unit with the filter hanging off it, forward of the distributor (=Spridget), or is the filter sticking directly out of the block near the distributor? ( Marina) The only vehicles which used 'inline' 1275 engines were Spridgets and Marinas, so it is probably going to... MORE
All the this talk of removing things and making things better has got me interested... Has anybody removed the rubber bumpers and put the side indicators back in? and how legal is it to this? Do he registration plate come off with the bumpers? Also pictures would be good! Preferably of what you did, but pictures of how nice your car looks after would be okay too! Gav. Hello all, I have a running MG Midget convertible, in excellent condition, that I love to death but am really needing to sell. I bought this car on Ebay last year, but have never driven it openly (by which I mean on public roads), had it insured, or had the title put in my name (I suffer from lack of funds). My brother has driven it, and says it handles quite well... the only defects we know of are: a minor hole in the exhaust pipe, a broken parking brake, and a leak in the braking system near the... Hi all I have a dizzy with an electronic module built in (on the side), probably from a 1275 metro or mini engine. Has anyone fitted one of these to a frogeye - if so, how do I wire it in? There are three electrical spade connections within a plastic housing - but no identification on them as to what should be connected to them. Any help appreciated Chris South Wales '58 frogeye "closrheidol" 37831... MORE
In trouble I have a pressing need for an oversize top ring for a +.040 over piston. This would be for a quick fix for a screwed up top groove in one of my pistons. The engine needs to get new pistons as soon as I can decide which way to go. .060 over or sleeves. But I have an event commimg up so I'de like to reg this one up for it. Looking for a set of +.040 top rings that are about .066" thick X .121" deep. I'm told that thicker rings were a commen fix years... MORE
This can be a problem, but in California, you can get a mechanics lean title with out too much trouble. I did it on a '59 Mercedes 190 I bought for $50. As is, rod through block, no rust, not bad interior and of course no paper or plates. First I did a DMV search and stolen car search with no results. Then I told DMV that a friend brought it by for me to work on 10 years ago, I did $1,000 of work on the car and he never paid me or never came back. Last I... MORE

G'day Jeffrey, and thanks. Now we all know how to pronounce "blxfstz" - just like "Holmes". My first Bugeye was purchased for $500 in 1970 when I was 19 years of age and ian impecunious Uni student. The brakes failed on the way home and I had only one week to get the rust repaired so that I could renew the registration. But then I wanted a sports car, and this was the cheapest one on the market at the time. I would love to come visit, and might do so one day. I'll even try the Rolling Rock,... MORE

The Twinni came about because one of the reasons given for the rejection of the Moke was the lack of 4 wheel drive, so Issigonis thought he would fix this by adding another engine/suframe assembly at the rear. Then John Copper saw it and realised there was no reason they could not do this with a mini.. IIRC there were about 2 or 3 Moke Twinnis, and one Cooper S version (this being the one that snapped a track rod at some silly speed causing John to loose control of the car and thus destroying it and nearly himself... Well.... haven't tried this myself but no reason why it shouldn't work as advertised. I don't know whether the "competition" or mechanical race distributor curve is still available but certainly, the "40819" Cooper S curved mechanical dizzy should be right at home in this environment I would think. Emissions laws vary from state to state here in the US. In CT, they don't check under the hood unless a car doesn't pass. Then you better have everything hooked up and operational as well or your registration will ultimately be denied. Once the car reaches the ripe old age of... MORE
I just got a phone call from a friend who has just picked up a Midget 'P' reg Rubber bumper from our local scrappy for =A375 with the V5. Its all there and not to rusty. Its not a nice thing to see at a scrappy but i suppose people get fed up with old cars. "mandy716412" 36019... MORE
Well, my windshield search is finally over. I just won one off of ebay. The funny thing is, the shipping is going to be more than the cost of the windshield assembly. Oh well. Yes it is not new, but it is certainly cheaper than new and also it will be better than the cracked one that I have. I know you all were on the edge of your seats wondering when I would find a windshield and get my Midget back on the road form my post from about 6 months ago, so now you can all relax.... MORE
Thanks Colin. Since I don't want to re-use the brake assemblies - I am more than happy with the discs that I have! - The real issue is to try and identify if the stub axle / kingpin unit is compatable with the disc set up. I understand there were changes between the original early drum brake stub axles and the later disc brake ones. So how do I tell if these are early drum brake variety or the disc brake version? Under the crud they look the same as my existing, but the difference, if it exists, may... MORE

Can anyone help please? I have a 1098cc MG engine in my 1961 Mk I Frogeye Sprite and have just removed the head for fault analysis for a rattling noise. The Haynes manual (page 37) states there are tappet covers but they are not identified in the exploded view of the engine. Can anyone help to identify where the covers are? and Is it possible to remove the tappets without removing the cam? Many thanks for your help Lee lparke12@... 33529... MORE
A Spridget bodyshell has appeared in the local scrapyard. Very little left of it but enugh to identify it as a wind-down window model. But it has Drum front brakes? It has been used for autocrossing. Would drum brakes be less liable to wet and mud when autocrossing? Perhaps they have been retro-fitted Anyway, the front kingpins and shockers seem to have been replaced recently and are probably worth getting. Are the front swivel hubs the same on drum and disk brake set-ups? Guy "Guy Weller" 33454... MORE
Hey Kerry, Welcome to the list. Check out the International MG Midget register page at http://www.mgb.bc.ca/imgr/reg.php?t=Midget On that page, you'll see other Midget owners listed, and can also add your information in there. Other listers might be interested in this website as well. Again, give me a buzz or drop an email if you're heading back down this way again. Pete "Pete Skalski" 33115... MORE
I just purchased a 1975 or 76 midget.... not sure what year, person I purchased it from said it was 75 but old registration papers has the date of 1976. I am intersted in finding out all the information I can about it. It is in need of much TLC and parts, but it runs and I am very excited about fixing it up. Would love to find some contacts in central Ohio with a midget of close or the same vintage to compare notes. Kerry Fish "rumblefish1955" 33084... MORE
