This is going to be an interesting thread.
As far as BMIHT Trace certificates are concerned heres the details from mine,
I've blanked out the numbers with X's for security reasons.

Thats basically the information you will receive on your Trace Certificate. I
never new the original colour of my car until I received this trace certificate.
It had been painted Teal Blue by a previous owner and I had assumed
incorrectly that this was the original colour. The trace certificate itself is
basically an A4 sheet of paper with the BMIHT Crest on the top and the details
typewritten.
There are real problems with 'Concours' competitions and the Judges in
particular. Whilst the Judges do tend to be very knowledgeable about the
cars, they're not all knowing. They only 'know' what the cars of a particular
'model' are meant to 'look' like. Not what the cars were actually supplied with
from the factory.
Does anyone actually know why the 12CE and 12CD engines were painted in a
light shade of green with a hammer finish ? It's because thats the colour they
were painting the MGC engines at the time and it made sense to paint the
Midget engines the same colour! I've heard of some 12CE Engines being
painted black - which is correct?
I think your friend restoring his Bugeye to 'concours' condition has got it
wrong. You're quite correct, the production line just continued and they used
whatever was at hand - see engine example above for proof of this.
