Hi,
My gas pedal often sticks (does not return all the way back). I can
usually fix it by tapping it a bit but sometimes I have to quickly
hook it with my shoe to get the revs back down to idle speed. I have
determined that this problem is caused by corrosion on the floor
hinge rather than a problem with the throttle springs, cable or the
bent rod between the cable and the pedal. I have improved the
pedal's action somewhat by applying oil and wd40 to the hinge and by
excersizing the pedal to try and grind the rust out of the hinge. I
haven't yet resorted to removing it from the floor to give it a good
cleaning, although that will be the next step. Meanwhile, I found a
hanging pedal which has the identical bent rod but just has the
pedal attached to the end of the rod rather than linkage attached to
a hinged pedal on the floor. I assume this hanging pedal was either
from a different year or model, or perhaps a custom alteration. It
does look like it would fit my car just fine. Does anyone know about
these or have any recommendation for or against using one?
