I have just replaced the head gasket on my 1500cc Midget, so I was
quite chuffed to say the least when it turned over after only a few
attempts. However I was not so happy when I noticed at lot of petrol
was coming from the bottom of the rear float. I have twin SU carbs. I
know that this was dripping a tiny amout of petrol before I changed
the gasket but it is now flooding out.
I realise extra fuel will have got in while I was turing the engine
over to set the rocker gaps, but this was a lot of fuel coming out.
I am now planning to first strip/clean/rebuild the floats but I was
wondering if any one knows if there might be some other problem I
should look at.
On a separate issue after reading a book about Tuning the A series
engine I was going to replace the carb air filter to K&N as I have
heard this makes a big improvement, what are people thoughts on this
I am not after a massive increase in performance but a bit more would
be good if I could get it at a reasonable cost with out damaging
anything. What are people other suggestion for easy to acheive
improvements?
