Early gearboxes on these cars have plain rather than needle bearings on first gear. If you want to keep things original then you can either get the box rebuilt for a few hundred $ (or do it yourself). Or with a few very minor and reversable mods you can fit a so called ribcase (for obvious reasons) box from the later Sprites and Midgets up to '74.
