Assuming it's a stock 1275 you are looking at Don, the correct model of
the
45DCOE for the set-up is 45DCOE13.
The DCOE is my favorite performance
carb. I got mine initially when the shafts
of the stock SU's my PO'd '74 started
leaking air and needed rebuilding. I figured what the hell and sprung
for the
45DCOE tuned for the stock 1275, instead. Glad I did. Worked just fine
right
out of the box, with the addition of a "deep" K&N filter.
Subsequently, the engine was "Vizardized" to the tune of 90+HP at
the rear wheels and the 45DCOE was
part of this set-up, modified with larger
chokes and jets in accordance with Vizard's bible on the Series A engine
and a couple of hours on a chassis
dyno (rolling road).
So, I got to know these carbs pretty
well, out of necessity. They have an
unearned reputation for being "difficult",
IMHO.
Now that I have dropped the Judson idea
as currently "not suitable" considering today's readily available
unleaded premium octanes, we will give this carb.
a shot (recalibrated for a Cooper S spec.
1293) on my current engine, shortly.
I figure the flow capacity of the larger
throats of the 45DCOE will more fully
allow the engine's aluminum head to
more fully realize it's "designed in"
improved breathing potential as compared
to the stock iron head and SU set-up.
While I am sure of an increase in top end,
we'll have to see if this negatively affects low and low-midrange
torque.
This will be a case of "suck it and see".
