Well folks...
As of tonight, the B-GT (67) is nearly ready for the first road
test. I need to get a tire tube replaced and check the differential
fluid before I drop it onto the ground and try for a short drive.
The new parts I needed to order were...
Clutch slave cylinder
Clutch Slave Hose
(2) Break Hoses
Misc Spare nuts and bolts
Gas Tank Repair stuff
Trans Mounts (rubber)
Engine Mounts
New Clutch system (disk, plate and through-out)
Tire Tube
Thermostate gasket (not installed yet - extra)
Falve Cover gasket
A few extra rubber pieces.
The hardest part of this whole project has been getting the engine
tunes and running well. It took over two weeks of me playing with
the SUs and stuff to get a smooth idle. I gave it a valve
adjustment yesterday - runs 110% better - near perfect idle.
The Midget is my next project. I just completed installing the new
Clutch Master Cylinder - what a pain. My Dad said it perfectly -
"these cars were built to be working on my monkeys". Well, I guess
you better sign me up to that union - eh?
Waiting on the Clutch slave hose and possibly a new break master
cylinder.
Remember, I've owned this Midget since 1978. Been through the motor
3 times and the last time, I pulled it to put in a new clutch. The
engine is strong, the only problem is the hydrolics.
So, my goal is to have both of them on their first road test by this
weekend. Then I'll work out the rest of the little problems and
then start on the interiors - then paint..
I know some of you are doing a "complete restore" but I just want to
get these on the road again. There is something about driving YOUR
MG. The sound of it, the feel of it.
I'll post pictures soon. Wish me luck.
