...might be on subject...but not 'specific' to the conversation....
I've been studying (extensively) the various emissions
re-breather systems used on the various years and
models of LBC's. Why? Trying to come up with a
system that won't dump oil all over the back of the
intake valves.
Any of you that have ever pulled a head off an engine that
has had a bit of blow-by due to worn rings, knows what
I mean. The vapors (due to crankcase pressure) being
discussed here, dump all that oil into the intake and end
up burning onto, and crudding up the back side of the
intake valves.
On 1275cc Midget engines, the separator was a small
canister on the front of the timing chain cover, and fed
pipes right on the side of the carbs, between the butterflies
and damper piston. No PCV valve was used. A vent pipe
with limiting orifice, allowed air to be drawn into the rocker
cover (crankcase) via a pipe connected to a carbon canister.
The oil fill cap has no vent. This configuration change was
to reduce the rate at which vapors were pulled into the intake
under high vacuum at idle. Excess blow-by could still push
oil out all the seams as with the butterflies closed, there was
still no place for the pressure to go.
So... why have I bothered to type all this? I'm in process
of finishing the 're-design' of a decent filter system that will
let us vent the crank, recirculate the vapors, without dumping
the oil into the intake. I've already tested four models,
and am trying to keep the entire system made out of stuff
any of us can make it with, without any special tools.
(this has been the hardest part)
Sorry... but my current on line documentation of the project(s),
only covers the installations and tests on my GT6.
