Kevin....
With respect to the picture of the crankcase ventilation system at the
carbs.....the system does not appear to be "pinched off" from what I
THINK I see.
The large hose from the front cannister
on the timing chain cover appears to
be clamped to a non-stock "Tee" fitting
from which smaller hoses are clamped that run to the crankcase emissions
breather ports on each carb.
Perfectly normal set-up assuming these
hoses are not clogged. Take the hose
off at the cannister, clean the end and
blow through it. With some restriction
(the "exhaust holes" in the carbs are
smaller "graduated orifices" don't forget)
you should be able to "blow through".
And of course, the above notwithstanding
you can check for obstructions in all
hose travels the same way of course.
Assuming the PCV system is "clear",
I would go with Bob Gardner's
idea and run the engine with everything
hooked up as you found it, but with the
valve cover removed to check the amount
of oil flow "into" the rocker area above
the head and also whether whatever
amount of flow exists is free to flow
down the pushrod bores.
Another lister mentioned a certain
"grub screw" which might have been
forgotten or might have "backed out"
thus allowing for far more oil flow
into this area then was intended.
This sounds pretty plausible, considering
the apparent "problem".
Talk more when you return and can
experiment a bit! :)
