Well....Big Bob....
I cannot source this engine number but...
"ass-u-me" ing a high compression 948,
the U standing for remote change gearbox
"over here".
A standard set of Spridget 1.25 SU's with
AN needles and blue springs should work
very well, I would think.
Thing is, you would want this on the better
flowing Cooper twin intake manifold if at
all possible instead of the stock Spridget
(worse flowing) type. And then, the carb
mounting angle might be just different
enough that use of the Cooper intake
manifold might require a little fetteling
under there to get proper clearance of
the carb tops under the bonnet.
In which case, the stock Spridget intake
manifold will do. Should add another
5 hp or so over the single carb. Zenith...
....unless the Zenith is a 1.5"....in which case, you might want to stay
with it.
You see, the stock twin SU set-up for
the Bugeye (Frogeye) 948 was 2 X 1.13.
The stock set-up for the later larger bore engines was 2 X 1.25.
So a single 1.5 throat would flow about
the same as a twin 1.25 set-up, more or
less...in which case there would be little or any advantage going to the
twin 1.25
set-up.
Many other opinions should be forthcoming however, I'm sure! :)
