George...
I think you have three problems:
1.The intake manifold mounted PCV system uses the vented/filtered oil
filler
cap to provide for incoming air.
2. The most effective crankcase scavenging consists of a feed to the
PCV valve from below the pistons.
3. The "cover" to the old mechanical
fuel pump fitting on the forward left
side of the block just above the flange
can be used as a "source" for relieving
lower crankcase vapor/pressure in place
of the old takeoff on the stock timing case
cover which no longer exists, in consideration of your new timing cover
set-up (which is like mine).
So:
a. Install the correct oil filler cap for the
system.
b. Fabricate a suitable fitting for the new
lower crankcase pressure reliefe source
for the PCV valve or you can spend bucks
for one from MiniMania. Relocate the
PCV hose accordngly.
c. Cap the current valve cover PCV
takeoff..no longer needed.
d. Over a period of time, the rubber
diaphragm in this type of PCV valve
becomes porous, and the valve begins
to "draw" oil like crazy so despite it's
appearance, I would renew this diaphragm just to cover all bases.
You see, with your current system the
crankcase cannot "draw" any incoming
air, and additionally....
....the crankcase pressure below the
pistons has no where to go...but up!
This is not good, especially if the above
condition as in "d." exists, in which case
you will have smoke out the exhaust and
oil being pushed out of the seals, all over everything...which sounds
like the case,
presently.
Make the above changes and see if this
doesn't do the trick?
