My 1500 has Peco exhaust, oil cooler but no magnetronic ignition or kenlowe
fan, from Nov 2002 until Oct 2003 it was in daily use and i covered 15000
miles in that time as well as several large jouneys includng Le Mans and
back which all told was 1000 miles in 4 days. (I'm in the UK) My car is
far from perfect but regular and pre-emtive maintainance is the key to
reliablility. Once you've ironed out all the faults that the previous
owners failed to take care of (in my case my own brother!) its pretty easy
to keep on top of it. I dont have a kenlowe fan and nearly paid the price
in the heat of last year a couple of times! I now have one but have yet to
fit it. Oil cooler is a must on the 1500, theres no room for debate on
this! Mine is only not in daily use anymore because I currently need to
regularly transport more than a mars bar.
The only problems i encountered in the period i mentioned were : Clutch
master cylinder had to be replaced, but this I suspect was more due to the
car having been in storage for nealy 5 years, all the shocks had to be
replaced at the same time too. Apart from that, a new windscreen wiper
switch and a quick bang on the starter motor whilst in france were the only
trouble i encountered. Having said that, I took it out last week and the
planet gears in the Diff destroyed themselves. you can't win em all i
guess!
If load carring ability isnt an issue for you and you maintain it well,
then i dont see why it couldnt be a daily driver and a reliable one at that,
mine was. Make sure the body work is sold though as that could cost you
way more than mechanical repair/replacments in the long term.
