Mike What kind of fuel delivery problems are you having? The correct size of the actual fuel pipe itself is 1/4 " diameter, so I wouldnt haave thought either of those two rubber hose pieces would cause a problem. It's more likely to be something else, perhaps something blocking, or fuel pump not working correctly or dirt in the carbs, dirty fuel filter etc. Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 25812... MORE
Hi I seeemed to be having fuel delivery problems with my '79 Midget 1500. Was wondering what is the correct size of the rubber hose pieces of the fuel line? I see that 1/4" and 5/16" both fit. Does the size have any effect on fuel pressure? Or can you use either one? Thanks Mike "mk2sprite2000" 25781... MORE
The reason is simple. You don't pay enough taxes on your petrol. If you did, the tax would fund a health service available to all FOC at the pointy end. Those who cannot afford a car would still get health care, funded by those who can afford to run a gas guzzler. Do I need a flame suit? Guy "Guy Weller" 25746... MORE
The Morris minor engine will bolt straight in and sit on the original mountings as log as you still have them! However there are some minor (?) differences, but very few of these will prevent the car form driving. You will have to fit an electric fuel pump as the original 948 had an AC mechanical pump driven from the crank shaft, the Morris minor had an SU electric pump, and so the block will not have the hole in the side to fit the mechanical pump. The minor engine will be one of three sizes. 803cc in which... MORE
Not to worry, Robert.... Liability insurance is getting so expensive that a lot of Doctors either are, or will be getting out of the business momentarily, anyway. And this is no joke, believe me. Just another example of the general decline of "quality of life" here in the good old USA due to whatever reasons one cares to choose, inclusive of gov't. becoming an "occupation" rather than a "public service" with respect to our Senators & Reps.. I'm no fan of Hillary but one must give credit where credit is due...she saw this along with other problems of this... MORE
I've only owned one later model Midget; the rest have been older Sprites. But, I had the same noise and while the fuel pump was indeed getting noisey with age, I agree with Paul that you should check your exhaust clearances. The frame rail can resonate like a drum when the exhaust is not quite as tight as it should be and the pipes make contact with the car. But you said that it happens as soon as you unlock the ignition ? Wait until the pilot bearing starts going out... that's a noise that will really confound you.... MORE
Electric fuel pump. If you have a stock one, it will be located above the rear axle on the right side. Turn your key and and see if that is the area of the noise. You might have a have a solid state replacement which never shut off and make that sound constantly, whereas the stock Lucas will shut off when the floats fill up. Welcome, but as a new member, you would do well to introduce yourself and at least sign your name as there are about 600 members here. As a novice, you should check out my... MORE
Hi... please don't laugh as I am a novice to this MG stuff. I have just purchased my first Midget and have a little niggle. When I turn the ignition key to the first position I get a subtle knocking noise - obviously something electrical - maybe fuel pump or starter motor???? As I start the engine and drive this knocking is still there (so obviously a necessary part of the running of the car) but the noise becomes louder and louder on an ad-hoc basis especially after a long run then pulling up at traffic lights). Should I... MORE
If the knocking is coming from the rear of the car what you are hearing is the fuel pump which is located in back in the wheel well. The time to worry is when you do not hear it at least on occasion. When you turn the key on it starts pumping and stops when the float bowls are full then it turns off and on as necessary to supply gas to the carburetors. A tip while on the subject . . . sometimes with older Spridgets, especially after sitting for a long time, the surface of the contacts... MORE
If you can pull the tube oout with the nut tightened, that is your problem. There should be a ferrule in the end of the tube that the nut holds but compression. You probably need news fuel feed lines between the jet and the float. I think the jet comes with these as an assembly. Gerard "gerardchateau" 25528... MORE
I finally got fuel flow up to the carbs but the front jet is leaking where it threads into the float bowl. I tightened it but it still leaks the tube can be pulled out of the nut even when tight. Is there anything that can be done or is it time for new jets? This engine better start right away or else! Thanks. Martyn "Martyn Eastwood" 25526... MORE
Fuel Tank In my application or case...the filter screen was attached to the end of the tube pickup and touched the floor of the tank in my application...the tube itself ended short of the tank floor by about 3/4". I don't recall the tube being anything but vertical in the last part of it's length. Cap'n. Bob '60 :{) PilotRob@... 25495... MORE
Martyn.... BTDT. You poor ba$ta-d....and I speak from experience. What we did was pull the tank, pull the sender, find youthful human being with really thin arms (my mechanic's 16 year old was on hand, thank God) and get in there with a long needle nose pliers (or whatever) and wrench the clogged up filter netting right off the steel fuel feed line. This will take a lot of patience to finally get a grip on the stupid thing to the extent you have the leverage to disloge it from it's pipe, unless you get lucky...which I hope you... MORE
Everything is ready to start the engine but no fuel! Arrgh! I must have screwed up when I sealed my tank! I must have sealed the outlet pipe shut. I remember someone having done the same and fixed it. I don't remember what the fix was, must be old age! I've tried poking a piece of 1/8 inch wire down the fitting but not sure if I've reached the offending blockage. Thanks for the help. Martyn "Martyn Eastwood" 25433... MORE

Guy W. Slower traffic staying right is the general idea but in moderate+ traffic it doesn't always work that way and it can become more a general free for all, most especially when 18 wheelers are thrown into the mix. This is theory which works until you come upon an entranceway with many cars merging, then you may find yourself forced into the middle lane in a situation wherein the traffic flow in the middle lane is doing 70 and you lack the power to merge left easily into THAT flow to make room in the right lane for... My 'tu-pence' : I want to be able to drive the spridget..where ever and as often as possible. Spending nuff time in garage with sons Porsche. Agree with the hi-rev's/hi performance might equal more down time for maintenance. With that in mind, and funds being available, it would seem a blend of euro-asian makes sense. But then just how far should one push the blend? If the 210 box works great.. some other power plant as well work better than the std. 1275 (or whatever ones flavor of spridget came with)? Would like to think all spridget can be... MORE
Don... "Sounds" (excuse the pun:) like you've got a glasspack (free flow) on there, maybe a Thrush or Cherry Bomb. These are "straight thru" designs (as opposed to the "baffled" stock (or Midas/Meineke/ Walker, etc.) system. It may also be the optional "GEX" straight-through type I've see advertised by MiniMania. "Straight thru" design with sound deadening packed around the "open" core allows for perfomance and/or gas economy along with allowing for a cooler running engine due to the easier trip the hot exhaust gases have outbound. allow the engine to run a little cooler as well as the exhaust... Hello Folks So heres the story Heading to a cars show about 150 miles away Temp out in AM was around 60 to 65 degrees water temp was getting pre hot by the gage I did pull over and there was a little over flow from the expansion tank but not allot. We did abort the trip and headed home but on the way home the temp gage was all the way past the H on the gage but things seam to be running fine, it didn't feel hot on the feet. So I am thinking the gage is... MORE

Colin... Hah!! It can't even produce one hp per cubic inch and in any case, would upset the fore/aft balance of the BE in terms of understeer. Of course, I could compensate to some extent with a heavier rear bar. And Peter C. could supply firmer valves for lever shocks as well. Or I could simply go with firmer KYB tubes. Then I'd have to fabricate a hitch to tow the fuel tank around..not too difficult. And I'd definitely have to give up the 3.7 for the original 4.22 for decent acceleration. Ya' know, this might be doable....I must... MORE
Drew, When looking for replacement shocks for the rear of my Morris pickup, I thought finding a replacemnt for the Monroes that were on there would be a piece of cake. Turns out there a very few shocks made with an eyelet at bothe ends, which I an assuming is what you need. After much difficulty locally, I went through Summit racing, but again ran into the dual eyelet problem ith what the carried. I ended up getting some very good assistance taking directly to KYB and was able to get the correct length gas shocks for the pickup.... MORE
Chris... A shame but...understandable in accordance with your previous posts on the subject. ....from what I saw of it, this guy got an awfully nice car. As you say...at least it went to someone who appreciates it, not only for what it is but most likely, for it's historical significance in terms of a great, but bygone, time in history. I am fortunate to have grown up in the era which produced these great cars, others of their ilk, Rock 'n' Roll, Drive-Ins and I think, a generally better quality of life all-around together with "real" high-octane gasoline (at...
