Has anyone tried the modifications listed in the bl st manual? I mean adding twin hs4 SU carbs, a race distributor (part number C-27H7766), a head with 9.5:1 compression, and a free flow exhaust? Doesn't surprise me one bit that "Sterls" would look back upon his racing days and pick the Sprite as his favorite for Vintage racing. Hi List, Had to tell about my experience last weekend. Went to the Madison (Wisconsin) Sports Car club 50th anniversery dinner last weekend and got to chat one on one with Stirling Moss. Asked about his experience with Sprites (since I run one in vintage) and he was very enthusiastic about them. He talked about running one at Laguna Seca (sp.?) a few years ago and how much higher reving it was than the factory cars back in 59-62. He really enjoys them as you can get away with "overdriving" and "abusing" them, without loosing it. Great to see... MORE

I have three-point inertia reels set up in my BE. The reels are anchored to reinforcements behind the seats. If you go to http://ntahc.org/modifiedhealeys/Photos/157Hammond/157Hammond.htm and scroll down 1/4 of the page, there are pictures. But you will need a roll bar as an anchor point for the shoulder loop, so if you don't have one and you're only talking inertia reel lap belts, it's probably not worth looking at the pictures, since what I did will not help you. Hi Vigil, The only 1275's with a potential problem with it in racing trim are the very first ones with the thin flange block. However, they're still pretty good but also pretty scarce! All the others that came in Spridgets are essentially the same. All the rear drive car engines are different than the mini ones. I might know of a 1275 engine in the San Diego area and can check that out tomorrow. Let me know if you're interested and I'll call him in the morning. It was a little hoakey, pitting two crews to build in one day and race, not too bad but a little contrived. But the rest of the show with the historical footage and background info was great. Okay All you racers, First Happy New Year, Second, I am starting to mock up the interior in my spridget, and I an finding a problem. I am just about to bend some brackets for the new seats I chose (Corbeau New Clubmans)when I noticed that the steering is just too much in the way. I was planning on going to a much smaller wheel (maybe 12.5") but I do not hink that will help. How do you track guys have your gars set up? The A-arms are interchangeable, but the later ones are reinforced and are stronger. Get one from a car which was originally equipped with an anti-roll bar. Some of the vendors sell rebuilts for $75 or so. "joe blxfstz" 33531... MORE

Colin, I have a friend that races 210s in SCCA and I asked him about the transmission and reliability issues with it. The only comment was that the shift fork that was secured by a roll pin could be a problem. That was solved by using a bolt and loctite. I'm not exactly sure how much power he's making with the 210 engine but it's estimated to be 100 to 120 hp. He told me that the transmission was capable of handling 150 hp. I did not have to do any modifications to the heater box although some grinding... MORE

David, I think someone else posted the speeds for the 4.22. As for acceleration, just take the % difference of 4.22 and 3.90 and figure that close to the same percent of an increase in acceleration will happen with the other diff. Perhaps like adding 20 more horse power, but at the sacrifice of the same percentage of top end speed. (Nothing for free in this world.) Fellas! I just have to tell you this, its probably old news to most of you but anyway. As you know i have been having problems lately (yet again), the symtoms were many and hard to make out. Well today the ba***rd fouled again and wouldnt run properly just like it was running on only 3 cyl. We are now 110% certain that its the petrol causing it. What happens is when the engine has reached normal temprature and i stop (with engine running) or drive very slowly the temp rise very fast (15-20F) and the engine starts fouling.... MORE

Guys I will be hosting the Midget & Sprite club stand at the BMC Rally on Sunday (1st August). The Rally attracts hundreds of British Motor Corporation built cars of all types including Spridgets as well as a variety of stalls and autojumble (some real bargains last year) all set in an area of lakes and meadows connected to Peterborough by a steam railway, with a battle of Britain flight flypast thrown in for good measure. Colin, Thanx a ton! Or whatever the unit of weight is down there X the exchange rate. That torque setting is quite a bit higher than what I've cranked in I'm pretty sure. I didn't use a torque wrench, just went to the nearest split pin hole after it got somewhat tight. As far as my hubs go, they are new welded-in-back ones from MiniMania, although I can't say they are exactly correct wrt dimensions. (How would I know without a mic and the spex.) Hi all, Is there a recommended torque setting for tightening down the nut on a front spindle to hold the disk brake rotor on? I have the old Brit Leyland ring-bound Spridget shop manual (circa 1970) and there's no torque spec in there. How tight is adequate, and how tight is too tight, i.e. shortening bearing life(?) or some other problem(?) Some background info for anyone patient enough to read - I've got the Frontline larger disc brakes installed, with all new wheel bearings, and yes, the bearing thrust orientations are correct. I have aquired a brand new 3 peice clutch kit with carbon bearing. I want to convert to a ball race thrust bearing, SO, does it run on the existing trilobular reaction plate fixed on the diaphragm spring? 1. The shortly later models used a 3/4" dual master cylinder with disk brakes. Looks just like the Bugeye 7/8" but takes less pressure. 2. There is a mastercylinder cap? on ebay for the dual mastercylinder that is raised an holds more fluid than the flat cover??? 3. Hi, Just ran my Bugeye in 4 Vintage races but fortunately blew a head gasket, cutting short my last race, because the master cylinder had suddenly lost about half its fluid in a few laps! Guess now is the time to upgrade to a dual circuit cylinder. What is the easiest route to do this? Any "how to" guides on the internet? There is a roll cage tube that goes quite close beside the "box" the master brake/clutch cylinder unit is in, so I don't have a lot of room for anything. I know Frontline do some alloy panels, but I think it's just bonnet, boot and doors, not wings. You might need to get some specially made, if you really must have them. Talk to the rich racing guys! Hi folks... it's been a while. I'm still doing too much traveling but I'm trying to work in some time on my 62MK2 between flights, and now I have some questions on front end springs. Anyone know what the original front spring rating (in pounds) for the MK1 or 2 Spridgets and has anyone ever measured the front end weight? I know that the RB Midget front springs are taller, but what is their ratting in pounds? Anyone ever use and have comments about the racing springs that Moss offers, 350 & 400 pound?
