Mr Zappa,
You should have a Zenith cd150 carb installed on your car if it is
stll as originally equipped. These carbs have been trouble since the
day they were installed new and only get worse as time goes on. As
for the fuel leak. Look real close at the rubber hose where it
attatchs to the carb body. Small hairline cracks frequently are found
causing fuel to weep. Have someone crank it over and you watch right
here for where the leak appears. Another possibilty is the auto choke
(if installed) can be a pain in the a$$. If the three screws holding
it onto the side of the carb come loose or fall out they will allow
raw fuel to seep out the side of the carb. These are special screws
so if they are missing, be careful. Grab it and see if you can wiggle
it or if it is loose from the carb body. Another possibility is the
needle and seat is stuck or the float is filled up with fuel and sunk
causing the fuel level to raise and fuel will run out the inlet of
the carb and inro the air filter. To repair this you must remove the
carb and turn it upside down to get at the bowl cover. If you are
careful prying it apart you will not need any new gaskets. If the
float (clear plastic) has fuel in it you must replace it. If it has
dirt in the bowl, clean it out, blow it out and reassemble it. If you
can narrow it down to where the fuel is coming from we can give you
more advise as necessary. There are only a few parts that need
replacing while overhauling these piles of crap so don,t let anyone
talk you into an expensive "rebuilt" carb or pull the wool over your
eyes saying they are hard to do. They are simple basic carb 101 work.
Get a Haynes manual and go for it. Don't buy a new one, very $$$.
Repair it or Replace it like suggested, Weber 32/36 dgv or Weber 45
DCOE or dual 1 1/4" SUs. I hated Zeniths when they came out and I was
working for the dealer and I hate them today, but this is the cards
we were delt so I learned to deal with it. Cheers, Rex Urban
