While the thought crossed my mind, I will refrain from being a smart ass...unlike Robert...;) Stock wheel size (4" wide)? If so, you can safely (though I will not warrant this statement) run 155/80R13 from any, though limited, number of suppliers. If you have wider wheels, you have more choices. I have 5 1/2 inch wide wheels and have run 205/60R13 tires with a little rubbing here and there. As far as brand...what ever rocks your boat that offers the size you need at a price you can afford. The Twinni came about because one of the reasons given for the rejection of the Moke was the lack of 4 wheel drive, so Issigonis thought he would fix this by adding another engine/suframe assembly at the rear. Then John Copper saw it and realised there was no reason they could not do this with a mini.. IIRC there were about 2 or 3 Moke Twinnis, and one Cooper S version (this being the one that snapped a track rod at some silly speed causing John to loose control of the car and thus destroying it and nearly himself... I was a member over a year ago and had to drop out. Well I'm back and this time I need to seel my 1973 Midget. If anyone is close to Las Vegas and wants it, it's going cheap at $750. RBH, You are a master of explanations as well as BE crazy. My rubber bumper car was converted to disc wheels and no bumpers at all. The rear end IS the tricky part. I considered two approaches:1) Have a body shop do it or 2)take a mold of my buddy's RWA section under the tail lights and make up a fiberglass piece to replace the flattened area. Use the folded over metal in the flat area to secure the new pieces and bondo 'em in. There isn't as much material removed on the rubber bumper cars as it appears... MORE

Welcome, Jim.... rear RWA Midgets have a nice "balanced" look their square wheel-arched brothers don't share. Fr'instance, a Frogeye bonnet looks far more at home on the former as compared to the latter. A "tuned" 1380 matched with a 5 speed.... excellent!!! It has seen little use since the mid '90's for a number of reasons but it is currently in the "state" of being rebuilt (well, it has been in this state for a couple of years now). I have run 195/60X13 TA's on my '73 Midget on 5.5 rims. Very slight rub in the front with the steering at full lock. I currently have 205/60X13 (not Goodrich) on with a rub in the back over biger bumps and more rubbing in front with full lock steering. I have a new set of 195/60 TA's ready to back on soon. Anybody have any experience running BF Goodrich Radial T/A's on a Spridget or other car? I'm looking at some tire options, and there's not that much out there in 60 series. I know they're not ultra high performance, but I'm not looking for a full comp Auto-X tire, and I've never got caught in the rain with the BE since I got it back on the road in 2000. Of course, the biggest appeal would be a theft detterent for most folks. I have gotten several of my Spridgets, because the owner was afraid to work o n it. Sorry David I have so many emails I only read group ones in the groups. The rest of the MG is OK its just BOTH arches. It passed the MOT in 2003 and was driven through the summer them went into dry storage at the back of a shed till i bought it at christmas. It took me 2 hrs to dig it out. The guy has burried it under all sorts of car spares. It had 2 new wings fitted and he gave me a new door and 2 secondhand wheel arches. I had to use a trailer... MORE
Hi Spence, It is the worst part. The engine is sweet and the interior has been well looked after. The front wings are new ones. It came with a van load of spares inc 6 wire wheels hub and 3.91 diff. New door and bonnet. I paid =A3300 for the lot so i am very happy with it. I am keeping the rostyles on it and selling the wire wheels and bits that go with it. The wheels were originally painted with silver (aluminum pigment) enamel. Some of them were a very bright silver, and others were a duller color, similar to MGA. I don't know whether this relates to the sequence, or the manufacturer, as there are two manufacturing methods also. Some BE wheels had the center spot welded to the rim, and some are riveted. In any case, shot blasting might be a bit coarse, and I'd use glass bead blasting. Modern auto paint (acylic enamel with urethane additive, or a base/clear system) would be nice, and powder coating would be even nicer.... MORE
I finally tried fitting the 12" mini wheel. As you said fine on the rear, but no good on the front it did foul the ball joint and the studs aren't long enough to fit the wheel back to front. Yeah... California has really gone over the top on classic car "emissions". It's all part of a political agenda in this particular respect, obviously. Has nothing to do with air polution really. I mean my Vizardized '74 1340 almost made it by CT emissions and was only "out" by 50 ppm hydrocarbons or less than .05 CO, depending upon which side of the correct ignition timing we chose to go. And this thing had a VP3 cam, 45DCOE and got 90+hp to the rear wheels. When properly tuned and maintained, most emissions non-equipped vehicles can get by the criteria... MORE
I bought and fitted a pair of inertia reel seat belts sold by the MGOC that bolt to the wheel arch. They adjust in orientation so they are in the correct plane to work. No problems, snap tight every time. I now feel a lot safer driving the car, that wheel is pretty close. Terry "Terry Isherwood" 35595... MORE
They are only on cars originally fitted with inertia real seat belts. When I came to repairing the inner rear arches on mine I changed the mountings for of the inertia reel belts. as my car originally had static belts. Had I known what a pain they were going to be to find I would not have bothered, but its too late now. The bracket bolt onto the side of the inner wheel arch, then go to the top of the arch and have a bend so the top part lays flat on the top of the arch, and... MORE
