Does anyone know of a source for 13" wheels for my 79 Midget? Other than Moss, of course. I would like to dress her up a little, but all I can find on the net is Moss at $244 apiece. Rick, When I went to install the Frontline tube shock conversion, I had to totally re-pipe the front brake lines from the MC to the calipers. (Frontline forgets to mention that small detail.) So I figured while I was at it, I would put in the LL. I do expect to run at the drags eventually and use it. It's good for laughs now - a couple of years ago at the Syracuse Nationals, Third Rail was a big crowd pleaser in an impromtu burnout contest in one of the hotel parking lots. Yes, Cap'n, personal in the sense that it is aftermarket. It is a Grant GT. I'd prefer a plain horn cap, though. I don't like logos, raised white letters on tires, etc. (Pay me if you want me to advertise your damn product.) It's actually a little too small. I can't see a all of the speedometer in the 40 - 70mph range, but the more important tach is fully visible. Rick, My V6 is a GM crate motor sold for replacement of the Chevy S10 2.8L V6. It is rated at 160 hp if the stock S10 2bbl intake and cast iron exhaust manifolds were bolted back on it. With my headers and Holley/Offy intake system, I would guess mines's up toward 190 or so, but I have no dyno data. This is my first posting here and it is just a quick note to introduce myself. I have at last bowed to constant pressure from the FPO to get rid of the Panther motorcycle combination (as so many men did in the early 60's when the BL Mini arrived) and get a 'sporty' car that she too can enjoy. It didn't roll yesterday when I set the "rollers" on my 1.5 set-up and hasn't in 42 years so I sorta doubt it, most especially since parking brakes and wheel chocks were "invented". Unless you got a clutch fan, do it my way and you won't need a chock anyway. Just leave it in neutr al and set the parking brake....OK!! If it makes you feel better, put a chock(s) under a wheel....or dead cat(s)! Now, take the damn plugs out so the engine... MORE
Did it take much to get through? I had a Honda N600 some years ago (the one that looks like a mini, and has a mototbike engine), and all it needed after 18 years was a good service and new tyres!! Hello, Couple of questions I have hopefully some one can solve them for me. My Car is Uk 1500cc 1976 Midget First my car does not indicate tothe right when the steering wheel is dead straight. The lights does not come up and the dash board and the clicking noise is far more rapid than it should be. However when I turn the steering wheel a small amount in either direction it works fine. ( And i get strange looks when I have to sway across the road so my car will indicate) The left hand indicator works fine.... MORE
If it is the 215 ci all alloy Buick V8 then you can get MG badged rocker covers and twin SUs for it!, it is the exact same engine that became the Rover 3.5 litre V8 and powers most range rovers and the MGB GTV8 hence Moss will sell you some rocker covers with MG cast in them that will bolt striaght on the engine. Although 200BHP stock is proabbly Gross rating, not the modern DIN, probbly more like 150 if you want to use the modern ratings. Even the Twin Plemumn SD1 Rover Vitesse only had 220BHP DIN!... MORE

Well, Dave.... The biggest/best change you can make is to bring up the compression ratio next time you have the head off, unless you're taking it apart for piston/ring replacement. Taking the head from 21cc down to 19cc should be good for just under 8.5-1 and were you to go to 8.8-1 pistons next time around, the combo would be good for between 9.0-9.3-1 or so. You could take the head down to 16.4cc but now you're down to min. thickness for the head (strength, cooling, head-gasket issues, etc.). Besides mechanical stuff, better breathing will help. wfo yes it has good suspension ,i got the springs, brakes, swaybar, and urathane bushins from moss motor. the car set about a 1/2 inch of the ground. for the rear im using a rear from a s-10 2.43 gears, and one set up with3.73 gears. i have takin the car out to the drags it did a 13 flat at 113 mph spinning the tires down the track with the 2.43 gears. as for the conversion i didnt do it but the guy that did said it was simple. i bought the car from my old boss who... Spent yesterday squeek and rattle testing in the feild, My 1500 Midegt has now put another 2 miles on its odometer (first movement it has seen in 16 years).. Found a loose shock boly, a loose wheel bearing and that I had only started the fuel pipe union into the tank and not done it up.. once it was all done it drove reaonably well.. apart form one thing, the clutch is still not working properly.. If you hold it down in 1st, the car gradually creeps off, my suspision is it fluid is leaking past the seals back... MORE
An experienced professional classic car restorer here in the UK advises owners to slightly under fill the diff with oil. He says these always leak and since there is nothing to oil lubricate in the axle tubes (the wheel bearings are lubricated with grease when fitted) there is no need to have oil present and a quarter of an inch les oil in the diff will not cause any harm. I have not tried it and take no responsibility if he is wrong but I have had problems with these seals even when new gaskets and O rings are... MORE
Greetings: I have a 1960 Bugeye Sprite which I recently purchased and am going through to make sure everything's up to snuff. Of note is that it has wire knockoff wheels. I took off the rear tires and brake drum to find that oil had leaked into the drums, contaminating the shoes and necessitating their replacement. While the hub has been off, I went ahead and replaced the bearing and I'm just about to the point of buttoning everything back up. I got a new o-ring and paper gasket for the hub as well. IMHO, this is not a good idea. There are some things that a "Shade Tree Mechanic" can do, after all, I are one, but there are some parts to the LBC that might be better left to a "British Car Mechanic." As far as your list, Wouldn't a simple "I'll pay you $50-$100, you look it over, turn it over, try to start it, check brakes, etc, and 1. tell me what you think, and 2. give me an estimate as to what you think it needs, what the parts and labor to do will be, and if agreed... Yes and no, most of them were just painted silver and black, but some were available chrome and black as optional extras. However, it's not advisable to have old wheels (or any stressed component eg suspension arms) chrome plated as it can make them brittle. I was wondering if anyone could give me some information. I have a 1977 Midget. It has the rostyle wheels. I think I would like to refurbish these back to their original appearance. I know the trim rings and small hubcap were chrome. But, were the wheels simply black and silver-grey paint? I have showed pictures I found on the internet to my friend who does auto body painting. 145sr13 tires were origonal, however this measuring system is no longer used. the orgonal aspect ratio was approximatly 82%. This means that the side walls were 82% as tall as the treads were wide. 145/80/13 tires are a good approximation, and will lower the ride hight a little and have the origonal tread width but can be hard to come by in america (not a problem in england longstone tyres is a good source). It is possible to fit 155 or even 165 series tires but you must keep in mind that the aspect ratio (the middle number) is... MORE
