Hi all,anybody intrested in a midget engine and box 1978(1500 )was running great,its now out the car as shell has been sold, car had done 50000 miles and had a new clutch fitted not long ago,l wanted the wheels and the shell was needed for a rebuild thats why it was broken,if any one in the group is intrested then shout as l will put ad in mags etc this week, price asking is =A3120 complete with box an carbs etc. am uk kent . regards wes "wesley5060" 30873... Well they cam today!!! I've unwrapped one, and the only gripe so far is that they used clamp on balancing weights on the front of the wheel! I would have preferred tape, but what the hey, they do look great. I haven't picked up the anti seize yet so I wont be mounting them today, but I should be back on the road by this weekend. Should there be any sideways slack on the bolt in each end of the radius arms or should they be tight. I have just fitted new arms and they have rather a big sideways slack/movement on the bolts each end. Should i make up some spacers to rid the slack. I was thinking of some sort of adhesive from a caulk gun. You know... the tar type stuff. Anyway, let me know how the Morrisevice kit works for you. I used the Rivergate, and had no complaints. Duncan Did you manage to get replacement bolts for your wishbone spring seat? I wanted to replace mine with new ones, but whne I spoke to Moss, they said they were NLA, so I had to - re-use them, but they looked like pretty standard bolts to me. Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 30673... MORE

Guys! Instead of using the old type paper gaskets you should try a gasket on tube that is fantstic, its made by Loctite and is called Black Tite. This is a rubber silicone gasket that never hardens and lasts for a life time. You will never see a drop of oil again. Jens And yes the wheel cylinders should have a paper gasket. Bill I had exactly the same problem when fitting my circlips. I found there wasn't enough clearance between the axle flange and the circlip and no matter how hard I tried I could not get the circlip to sit flat. In the end I ground off about 2 mil of the round part of the circlip so it would just clear the axle flange. It worked fine on one side, but evidently ground off too much on the other side because when tried to make it lay flat it went 'ping' into two parts! I ordered an original type... MORE
Bill, A couple of points that may help: The "E" -clip goes on with the open gap towards the bleed screw. There is a very slight groove between the axle casing and the back plate that allows the edge of the clip to fit the space between the wheel cylinder and the axle casing. There are various techniques. I have found that if you can get the edges of the 3 lugs just against the edge of the wheel cylinder casting and then put a large socket against and give it a "light tap with a heavy hammer" it... Jens No they're not 'original' but they look it - you can't tell the difference between steel and cupro/nickel, so unless you tell anyone...however, no problems spotting copper ones huh? At the end of the day you don't need to be a slave to originality unless you intend to compete in 'concours' events, which I don't. My adherence to 'originality' is for my own benefit, because I want to keep my car as 'original' as I can. That doesn't mean that because cupro/nickel alloy brake pipes wern't used at the factory they can't be used now. Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 30606... MORE
Jens Depends on how much vibration the pipe is subjected to, it can go brittle and break if it's been allowed to vibrate - make sure its firmly clamped down. Cupro/nickel alloy is the best stuff to use - doesn't go brittle and doesn't rust - but is expensive! Nigel "amukdigiphoto" 30597... MORE
Hi guys I'm at the stage now where I'm about to fit the fuel line to the Midget. The brake lines have been done in 3/16" cupro/nickel alloy and I was going to do the fuel line in this as well, but having just seen the price of a 25' roll of 1/4" cupro/nickel pipe =A333 ($60) of which I'll probably only use about 6 or 7 feet of seems a bit excessive! G'day Rick, and congrats on getting the car home. We have fitted a few cars with 14" MGB wheels, with no problem. As long as you don't go too wide on the tyre profile. Two things you will need to do. 1.. The lip on the inside of the rear wheel arch needs to be gently folded up against the inner panel. This gives you only 1/8" or so extra clearance, but you will probably need it. If you are gentle with a hammer and dolly, you can do it in 10 minutes per side, and it will be... MORE

I've checked out where Ampfield is, and it would be about an hour to hour and a half drive from where I am, so certainly doable, but as you say - they're not cheap! Rick, I know that they put 15" rims on the MGC and 14" rims on the MGB but I do not think 14" wires would fit on a midget with squared off rear wheel arches. With the right tyre profile and flares you might be able to pull this off. The hub is the same on all three dunlop wheels. Never know until you try it on ONE wheel and see. We fit 205/60/13 wheels with mags on a midget or sprite with round wheel arches with little to no problems all the time. Best of luck. Rex Urban... MORE
Listers - The friend I received my 75 Midget from has a set of wire wheels, if I remember I thought they were 14" wheels from a MGB, but no splined hubs, just the rims. My question is will 14" MGB wheels fit a Midget with the Midget Splines? Not sure if the would have the correct splines, hub bolt patterns and wheel offsets (I know B wheels are something like a 1/2" wider also), but a set of new low profile tires would give the correct outside diameter. Don I only do it out of sheer laziness! Everyone knows who I am! Indeed, I'm a bit like you, I think everyone is to a certain extent, certainly when it comes to your own money. However, I know why this happens and so do you if you think about it, I've seen the same thing happen over here time and time again, and yes it's annoying. But its symptomatic of the society we live in, labour costs here, I'm sure like those in the US are astronomical - what are good mechanics making over there now - 50... MORE
TJ, On your soft pedel problem, I don't think it is the MC. Try bleeding the brakes one or two times, remember to start at the farthest wheel from th MC and work closer. A soft pedel that will pump up hard usually is air in the lines. Where the air came from is a nother story.
