To fix this you are going to have to open up the case and get into the detailed workings. It is pretty delicate stuff in there and parts do wear out. You may prefer to get it to a specialist to recondition. If you do want to sort it yourself you will need to remove the chrome bezel and glass and then undo the two screws on the back of the case. Hello troupe,..I'm looking for a set of Cornercraft Ace Mercury wheel disks (read hubcaps) for my 62 Midget. They were an option on the MG B and the Midget in the early sixties...anybody have any leads?..i'm also looking for a hardtop as well. Wes, I switched to 5.5 American Racing wheels last summer. They will NOT fit without mods on a 1500 running 165 x 70's. The front and rear wheel arches will rub. Will a hinged hood (top) off of a 1975 Midget fit on a 1966 Midget? What is required to use the later folding top? The interior three bolt mounting points just front of the wheel wells and? No haven't missed it , been in email contact already. Turns out he does auto testing etc with the guy that sits at the adjacent d esk to me. My mother in law worked for Dunlop aviation in Coventry (tyres mainly) she moved with the operation to a massive building in Birmingham known as Fort Dunlop. Bob, Thanks for the vinyl dye tips. One little disappointment I just discovered . . . I have a beautiful wire spoke steering wheel from my 69 MKIII parts car I had planed to use on this car . . . just discovered they increased the diameter of the steering wheel spindle end at some time after the MKIII :-( However, over all I am very pleased with things are going. Hi, Roger.. We do have a lister who has done the Vizard carb (and I believe intake manifold) mods to the stock 1.25SU's. I hope we hear from him. Supposedly with these street mods, the 1.25 set-up will match the flow rate of a stock pair of 1.5's. The foregoing notwithstanding, Vizard improvements are flow bench tested/verified. Well... While it's a rotating assembly, I've no idea what is "acceptable" or not in terms of balancing criteria. I would assume that some unresolvable tire balancing problems (despite "changes" in tires, etc.) might very well be something other than what they appear to be in accordance with what you found regarding your driveshaft. I dunno. I mean I'm sure the parts are at least statically balanced in manufacture but what tolerances exist within "acceptable" to the extent it might not go "outside" with use or parts "alignment" changes. Yes, I have a standard Small British Garage (SBG) and have removed two rear axles and suspension in one go. Putting back together will probably as ind ividual parts though. As far as I can remember, I placed a wheelable trolle y jack under the diff housing I put axle stands with about 9" square 1/2" ply between the stand and floor pan (to spread the load) on either side of the car, under the rear bulkhead. Duncan I'm not that familiar with the term 'lacquer' as far as I'm aware it covers pretty much all car paints, as they're all a form of lacquer. What I think you mean is Nitro-celullose Laqcuer, commonly referred to as just 'cellulose' and if you do mean this then yes, thats pretty much your only option for spraying at home. (some bright spark trying to be clever will probably come up with alternatives, but in practical terms 'cellulose' is your only option for spraying at home). Jim The only reason I put mine together on the car was because I simply didn't have the space to do it off the car and wheel it under as a unit. If you have that space I suspect that may well be the easier way to go. I do remember getting the shackle bushes on was a real pita, I had to jack up the base of the axle side to get the shackle bushes aligned correctly, all in about 2 feet of space between car and garage wall. Paul, Yes it will crunch going into 1st and reverse Yes it will be harder getting into gears when stationary The "bite point" on the clutch should be further from the floor so it may still need adjustment, But.... nothing beats driving it for a few hundred miles. It will shake any remaining air bubbles out of the hydraulic fluid. It will bed down any contact surfaces, synchro hubs, clutch and release bearing and it will ease the meshing of gears Drive it! Gets some miles under those tyres!! OK, wait till the snow has gone and then drive... MORE
