G'day TJ Remove the float bowl lids and, with a compressed air gun, blow the sludge out of the sump at the bottom of the bowls. Remove the carby dashpost and blow air into the bottom of the float bowl to ensure the fuel supply jet to the carby is clear. We had a car in the shop recently with a similar problem - idled fine but wouldn't go up a hill. Dear Listers, Just something interesting I have become aware of lately, I wonder if it is a Southern California fad or have you all seen it? It is a sport called Drifting. The object is to take a car around a closed course at high speed (sometimes as much as 100 mph) and throw it into a huge 4 wheel drift for as far as possible. I have 2 main mechanical issues I will need to fix before doing any real driving. (I have many other non-mechanical issues, some even just mental). 1. Brake pedal needs "pumped" to build up pressure. Once I pump it a few times I can hold it down and it stays firmly (doesn't go all the way to the floor no matter how hard I push). Before I pump it, it goes all the way to the floor. Neighbors must think me crazy . . . My 73 has the notorious sticking fuel pump contacts. Usually it works but after about a week of sitting it acts up. I keep my knock off hammer behind the seat . . . if I do not hear the fuel pump start clicking when I turn on the key I reach back behind me, take the big lead knock off hammer and hit the back wheel arch behind the passenger seat. I am fitting new seels to my dual master cylinder and are wondering which way the end bit in the clutch cylinder goes. At the very far end of the return spring is a metal cup and inside this cup there should go a smaller rubber cup (shaped as a cup). The one i took out had turned around on its side thats why i am wondering which way to fit the new one. Is the bottom of the cup facing forward (ie towards the firewall) or backward, it looks like it will fit either way. Jens Jens P.... MORE
I forgot to mention, The impact beam and front bumper really create a safety barrier on your car.(they really work) By removing these you will risk injury in the event of a frontal impact. Now having said that, the Winners circle "fat" flared 1500 nosed kit really looks good when both the front and rear are flared and larger 16" rims are used. Grrrrrrr! I always prefered the one piece front end to the seperate fenders and bonnet. I have used fiberglass panels for decades and never gave it any thought, Just my preferances. Just dont get hit. Best... Neil... I too have been told the same about the 3.7 diff from Bill Perry of Rivergate (and he oughta know!). In my discussion with him on this (I've used a 3.7 for many moons) it became apparent that it's all in how the individual driver treats his machinery. Does he transfer gobs of power instantly, or not. IOW, does he/she beat on it? My current 3.7 diff came out of my '74 Vizardized Spridget..90+hp at the wheels. I put about 10K on the car annually for 12 years or so, then it saw service in my '67 Sprite... MORE
Well looked at it,then looked again the next week,and well l wanted them wheels for my 67 sprite,so l got it a 78 1500 there will be other bits on it l can use for my car, but will have a good engine and box for sale in a few weeks time 67000 miles from new, dam shame realy to break it but doors etc will fit mine,one wing has a bit of rot but the other side is fine,bumpers are the same very good,and yes before you moan at me l should restore it but doing this 67... I had a buddy in high school (Ted Owens) who had an MGA '60 1600 in Iris Blue with wire wheels and the "thin" whitewalls which were the rage at the time. VERY pretty car. Retired Navy fighter jock. Hey group. I think its time to pass my beloved 62 midget onto someone else. But only after Don May gets first refusal!... I'm not in a panic to move it, but i would like to see it go to a good home. Its photos are in the album section under 62 midget... its an original 948 side curtain model with a very new (under two weeks) rebuilt head. it has very nice seats, good dash, everything works, including the windshiled squirters. the hand brake needs adjustment and it could do with a brake bleeding or the very least... Hi, Jim C. Comments..Rivergate clutch set-up... Running a Cooper S cammed 1293 with cam advanced 4 degrees for Metro inlet timing giving very torquey low and mid-range punch. No clutch problems in 6,000 miles. Ran Judson Supercharged (both 4 & 6 psi "wheels") stock 1275 for about 5,000 miles before realizing blower not compatible (as is) with engine size. Never had a problem with the Rivergate clutch during this time which included some pretty rouch acceleration runs in 3rd & 4th up steep grades. No clutch problems. I find the Rivergate clutch set-up to be more positive in "engagement"... MORE

oh, they are definitely pressed steel. They were described as cast alloy by mistake in an early review when the cars were introduced, and people have been repeating the same mistake ever since. Regards David (especially Rostyles me, black only cast "David Jacobs" 29413... MORE

Greetings Group, I humbly seek the advice from them that know, being a new Midgeteer with little knowledge of the animal yet. It seems the steering column on my 1974 MK III has collapsed. I believe they have crushable gubbins inside and mine have been crushed by the PO removing the steering wheel with a mallet! However I have sourced a refurbished column which will be fitted in the next couple of weeks. It seems pretty straight forward, which worries me, there must be a catch! Nigel, I am very afraid to post any pix you could see. The car is in three colors of paint plus the original Brookland green. (Seeing what looked best, ya know). I have lowered the front with 1275 springs but not the rear just yet. I'm running American Racing Mags 5.5 inches with 165 x 70 tires. I've cut off the front bumper supports and sold off the rubber bumpers. The interior is new and pretty well sorted out. McGee runs and drives well except for my often mentioned clutch problem. Guy Hey! Thats MY cheapo trolley jack! My dad got me that for Christmas one year I think, and it's been so useful. Which alloy castings? The steering rack ones? I just cleaned them up with a wire brush in an angle grinder. The other silver things you can see are the shock absorber bodies that have been painted in silver hammerite. I just recently received a set of Western Minilites. I have lined up the lug nuts, but I have yet to settle on a set of centers. Cap'n Bob has sent me a link to Prestige Wheels, but the centers stand out 2 1/4". I would hope that there may be something a little less obtrusive. I would like to check all my options before I just buy the first centers I see. The Westerns have a 2 3/4" hole in the center. Terry, On the several that I have dismantled, they have all had mastic between bezel and glass, O-ring between glass and the next ring in, and an 0-ring between the case and the metal dashboard. I don't think there is supposed to be an O-ring behind the metal reflector ring. It is stepped and fits against the rim of the case, leaving a gap between it and the dial face to let the light through. One tip here is that you should save discarded O rings from the rear hubs as these will fit around the tach and speedo... MORE
