They just stopped by Placerville on Hwy 50 on their way to Gardnerville Nevada and eventually Wisconsin - or was that Minnesota? This is the cross-country pickup of a 71 Midget from Southern California. They've had a hot-running car, which fits the 100+ weather, but the 14lb cap is holding and, tho it dribbles once stopped, seems to be holding pressure fine. The fancy wide wheels are a bit too wide and the left rear tire has been rubbing, but a service stop in Fairfield on the way across California saw some adjustment for clearance. I wish now I'd... The ignition switch is giving me problems. It no longer springs back to the on position after starting the engine and the starter doesn't disengage when the switch is manually moved from start to on. I have taken the steering wheel off and am stuck at the plastic cowling surrounding the switch. The turn signal stem won't let me pull out the left 1/2 of the cowling and the right 1/2 seems to be stuck in place also. Any tips on getting the faulty switch out of the column? of course, he could always cheat and get the discs machined so they are just flat, no raised centre section, and fit them between the drums and the wheels, so they have the appearance of disc brakes behind the wheels, but with none of the hassle! David "David Jacobs" 23275... MORE
I must apologize to those who followed my progress report, just don't have the time nor the room anymore to work on my 67 Sprite. It is a 67 Sprite that is torn down and middle of restoration. It has a lot of body work done already and shouldn't take much to finish. The shell and doors were professionally sandblasted to bare metal. (cost over $400 for just that). Car is apart but well cataloged, small parts in Ziplock bags with labels, bigger parts in categorized plastic bins, shell on a dolly, new VB parts used cost over $600.... MORE
Heh, heh.... Well, Terry.. ......if he's capable of doing his own machining then it's basically his time and not really the money that is at stake. With a proper biasing valve it should work. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I, too, find the stock brakes pefectly adequate. Wonder what it'll be like when he hits the pedal in the rain? Probably have to crank in a little more bias to the fronts, I would imagine. Which will probably defeat the whole purpose of discs in the back for superior stopping in the dry? Morning folks. This is sort of a poll to get an idea of what Spridgets are currently the most collectable / desired and their current market value. Realizing of course you can't really put a price on insanity . . . uh . . . I mean spridget love / masochism. We have all suffered a few of their engineering quirks. I purchased a 8 of 1975 USA mg midget and have been correcting what the previous owners did to ricky race it. I have talked to the mechanic the previous owners had work on the car about the things I noticed wrong after buying it. The left front end has too much negative camber, thanks PilotBob. The mechanics answer "the owners just replaced tires and did not drive fast" what he meant by fast must have been any thing over 40 MPH. The engine isn't original for the car. But of course in the UK most of these have different names, and some - like the "sidemarker lamps" don't exist at all! And a "quarter light" as in the original thread topic, is nothing to do with Mr Lucas. The term light refers to a window or pane of glass - as in Elizabethan buildings with "leaded lights", "skylights", "fanlight", "borrowed lights" etc. Remember these are LBCs. Actually, I think everyone should stick with the British naming of parts and drop all references to hoods when you mean bonnets, rotors when you mean discs, fenders when you mean... MORE
David... You are absolutely correct on this. It is one thing to go with lighter, wider WHEELS while retaining the stock narrow width tires (80's) in stock size or slightly oversize. It is another thing to go with a wider "footprint", wheel material or width notwithstanding. At this point, you will definitely be changing the "character" of the stock vehicle's handling in terms of "tossability". Absolutely correct IMHO in terms of my personal experience. One should read up on "handling" before doing upgrades involving wider footprints on suspensions originally intended for for more narrow "footprints" in term of what... MORE
I just installed 175 x 13 on 5.5 inch mags on my 75 and had clearance problems. I had to grind off the inner fender lip on the rear wheel arches and grind a 1 inch taller front wheel cutout. Jack... Either absolutley should. I am using 175/70x13 on 5.5 Western's (Minilite wannabes) on my '60 BE with no problems, and I've not yet put the 1/4 spacers on the back wheels yet to bring them out a bit to match the track of the wider "disc" front end. I checked and have found the relevant mounting points. The wheel well attachment consisted of two studs with chrome dome nuts. Can anyone suggest a US source for the proper 3-point belts? I don't believe that they would have been retractable. Thanks, Herman "hermanfarrer" 22891... MORE
All the mounting points should be there. However cheap replacement inner sills may not have the relevant one Mounting points are the inner sill, as far back as you can get, the transmission tunnel also as far back as you can get and on top of the wheel arch. "Jeremy Cogman" 22877... MORE

Good Morning Spridget Land, The right turn signal lamp on my 74's dashboard is burn out and the lens with the little arrow symbol is missing. Darn if I can find a replacement lamp or the little lens cover in any of my catalogues. It would seem like a minor thing but not having a flashing indicator when I am making a right turn is an annoyance and an obsession. Anyone have one or know a source? Its not like you can hear a the flasher unit when doing sixty on the freeway with 16 wheelers on both sides... MORE

Bill... This often happens when cats are used as wheel chocks or in some other manner feel sleighted....they don't get mad, they get even. Like females, they know just how to "get you". Some have been known to claw at wallpaper (no names mentioned) if they even feel they've been "eyeballed improperly" (they percieve a lower level of respect than they know they're entitiled to, fr'instance) by those of the human persuasion with whom they elect to share their lives with, most of whom mis-guidedly refer to themselves as "cat owners". Hi all: I have a really nice 1964 Beach F Vee Mk 5, serial number V-16 that is monoposto legal (fan, generator, new Dunlops with z-bar rear suspension) and with two races on a fresh motor that I would like to swap for a Spridget Vintage racer (anything from spec sprite on up to an H, G or F Prod car). I have to give some background prior to my question. Last Wednesday, I was running around in my stock 65 Sprite. Cornering a bit more spirited than most, the car feels nice and in control, no worries. Next day, I am going through town, thinking to myself how good this car has been running. "Thanks Bob & Allen for the education" (You owe me big time, Don May!!:):) Assuming it's a stock 1275 you are looking at Don, the correct model of the 45DCOE for the set-up is 45DCOE13. The DCOE is my favorite performance carb. I got mine initially when the shafts of the stock SU's my PO'd '74 started leaking air and needed rebuilding. I figured what the hell and sprung for the 45DCOE tuned for the stock 1275, instead. Glad I did. Worked just fine right out of the box, with the addition of a "deep" K&N filter. Subsequently, the...
